Welcome to our Crackley Garage information page about our steering- and suspension services.
When parking on a side strip, a collision with the curb may occur sooner or later. In most cases, the car is not damaged. However, in the event of a severe lateral impact, the track rod or another part of the wheel suspension may be warped. This can be seen in the fact that a front wheel is no longer running exactly straight. It always looks a bit deflected. The straightening of a warped track rod is possible, but not allowed. It is also not permitted to direct other distorted parts of the steering. There are some individuals out there trying to straighten parts, but these parts will lose their stability. Through such unprofessional repair work, the driver not only jeopardises himself/herself but also other traffic users.
Damaged or worn parts on the steering and wheel suspension must be replaced with new spare parts. After repair, a track adjustment (wheel alignment) is required. If the track is set incorrectly, this results in poor steering behaviour. In addition, an incorrectly set track can lead to understeering in curves. An incorrectly adjusted track can also be seen on the one-sided wear on the tyres. The tyres should always wear evenly over the entire width of the tread. If this is not the case, the track is set incorrectly.
